So I went all the way to Lafayette, Louisiana to look at Yoshi.

Guess what? He was a sweetie. But dead to my leg (nearly) and his camel movements jostled me.

And he had degenerative joint disease. The search is still on.

Today is the first day I consider myself truly horseless. Because it is the last day my board was payed for. Zephyr left Saturday although I still technically own him. Bob left 3 weeks ago. I keep telling myself it’s all for the best, but I don’t know. Is this what I want to do in life? Horses? Is there any point to the excitement and pull of show jumping - when the class is over its just 2 tired animals regardless of ribbons. I want to make it to 4′6. But is my position solid enough? Will it ever be? Especially if I’m not riding…

And then there’s the thing, that I think the horse Capitol worked well for me. Except he is unsound for jumping and already owned. He was perfect - sensitive to leg aids, went on the bit, but not crazy. And a good 16.3hh.

The one in GA I found last week at Irish Rose Equestrian Center was really kind despite having an abcess, and he was 15.3hh not the advertised 16hh.

I finally found a horse in GA, called it up, and I can’t believe it was $6500 - required special shoes, not sane… Same with a $1000 one in Tennessee. So I thought about trying CANTER’s Athens horses, but the closest they have to what I need are 8 year old OTTBs.

There is a nice PA CANTER horse named C R Daver D, 7yr 16.1hh chestnut that goes on the bit, used as a pony horse. $2500. Sounds good, but no jump training. And it already is trained in a sense, too… Plus, PA is further than LA (read on).

I won’t even mention about the Saddlebreds I found, I thought since Saddlebreds were once grand prix military jumpers… Nope. Plus, $3500 for horses that are jumping prospects is a little high.

I was pleased to find that my “dream horse” Yoshi, the one in LA, is indeed 7 years old. The owner told me originally “Kelly Red” as the registration name, which would make him 12, but his name is “Go Kelly Red” and he’s part Irish-bred. She said he’s slow, though, and I feel funny about getting a horse without a “story”, one I didn’t train. But he is $6500 and capable of 4′6 when reconditioned.
